Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive, two-and-a-half-day leadership training program for high school juniors in District 5300. Students are chosen for their leadership potential. The event is held in December at a conference center in the San Bernardino mountains. In addition to the development of leadership skills, RYLA is meant to develop and reinforce the students' efforts, accomplishments, skills and potential as leaders and to have fun. Rotarians serve as facilitators to the students’ learning and discovery, as well as role models of Rotary ideals of the Four Way Test and Service Above Self.
Our Pasadena Club helps to interview and select the students. In addition, we send a minimum of two facilitators. Facilitators will travel with the students on the bus, which leaves early Friday morning and returns on Sunday afternoon. Facilitators are assigned to a group of 10–12 students, which you will work with for the entire weekend. It's a wonderful opportunity to observe, coach and mentor our future leaders.
